That’s the headline I read today on Indiana Pacers starter Stephen Jackson. He is one of the players who fought in the stands against the Detroit Pistons at the Palace. Last night he was at the strip club with other basketball teammates and they got into an argument with some guys in the club. The argument continued outside of the club. Soon enough punches were thrown and it went all out. The person he argued with even tried to run him over with his car. Stephen Jackson told the policeman when they came to the scene that he was punched in the jaw and hit by a car. He also stated he shot his gun in the air as self-defense. Regardless it was a fight and a violent altercation.

How stupid does he look letting it get to this point? We as young black men look stupid by the minute every single time a high paid athlete gets into some nonsense like this. For one it shows he hasn’t changed any of his ways since leaving his dangerous environment, second why is he carrying a gun? As a celebrity he should get a bodyguard. By carrying a gun it makes him look really stupid and reckless in the public eye. Third what in the world is up with all these basketball players at the strip club? To me once you are in the make millions and are in the public eye you have to watch your moves because you influence so many young athletes and people. I understand they are human too, but how about they try to be low key, if you get in an argument with someone just let it go and remove yourself from the situation.

I mean damn didn’t the P.diddy situation teach us a lesson because I know it taught me one. I’m just really upset because the media portrays anyone who embraces hip-hop culture as ignorant and uneducated. I know it is wrong, but with all the ignorant stuff like firing pistols, beating up fans and even beating up the lighting guy at a concert (ala’ DMX) are their perceptions right or are we in denial?
